Victim Abuse Support Program

The Child and Youth Victim Abuse Support Program provides children and youth up to 18 and their supporting families in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community with the help they need when the words are first spoken or behaviors first noticed that indicate a child may be a victim or witness to physical, emotional or sexual abuse. The Child and Youth Victim Abuse Support Program was created to ease, as much as possible, the amount of emotional damage to the child and supporting family so they can begin their healing in a healthy way.

There are approximately 22,000 children and youth reported living in Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows. Considering an estimated 866 children and youth are abused each year – only 300 cases reported.

Victim Abuse Prevention Program

The Victim Abuse Prevention Program is designed to prevent or reduce the long-term impact of abuse on the victim from childhood to adulthood. It’s well known that many mental, physical, or addiction issues experienced by adults result from childhood trauma and victimization. As well, Alisa’s Wish Child and Youth Advocacy Centre will provide professionals in the community with education and enhance their awareness and understanding of abuse and neglect.

The Centre will continue to be an important, warm, friendly and safe environment for exploratory interviews by the RCMP and Ministry of Children and Family Development to help determine if abuse or witnessing abuse has occurred in a child (or youth’s) life.
